of tofu

Wednesday night had me venturing into tofu. Sounds easy enough right? just throw it into rice cooker and steam! then pour some oyster sauce over!

I never knew so many things could go wrong with tofu. My end product was hard and dry and had lil holes in it, my oyster sauce refused to come out of the bottle and was all concentrated and lumpy [i shld have waited til the asian market visit to get lee kum kee! most trusted brand.]

side note: my mentor just walked in while i was happily blogging. bloody hell.

so, here's a pict of dinner. i fried some sotong balls and meat balls and there's the lousy tofu as described. looks real gross eh? well at least the potato pancake thing done by the flatmate wasn't exactly a delicacy either. heh heh.

Called mummy the next day to beg for tofu-help. Haha, learned that

1. you gotta put it in to steam only for a while [when the rice is already cooked]

2. must buy japanese brand tofu [?!]

3. must use lee kum kee oyster sauce

4. must use fried onion [shallots?] oil.

5. there are 'small onion head' and 'big onion head'. i still dunno whats the diff even though she says she asked me to buy 'small onion head' for her before.

6. must fry 'small onion' until once it turn brown must take out. if not it will turn into black soot rapidly.

my my. so tonnes of things can go wrong with tofu.

in addition, it was national day.. its kinda sad though. other than jy,cy,ks coming early to work at 6 to watch the parade [i didnt i was happily snoozing], there wasn't any natl day action and i didn't feel particularly patriotic or anything. kinda sad, at least when it's on tv in spore you'll get this feeling of pride when watching. well at least i wld. i thought i wld feel it more when im here but apparently natl day just zipped by. oh well. it just aint the same when ure abroad!
