Cambodia Day 5 - Oudong and Phnom Penh

Sunday, 18 October, 2009

Our last day in Phnom Penh, today we shall chill.. shop some, relax, and have some good food! We couldn't resist squeezing something into our slacker itinerary, so for the morning we had our driver bring us to Oudong for some mountain air.

We wanted to try some Khmer Fried Chicken for breakfast but it wasn't open yet..

Student volunteers? Looks like a dangerous job.

back to our trusted Lucky Burger for some good breakfast and coffee. I was scolded for taking these photos!!

my cheapo breakfast.. had to ration some $ for a cappucino.

We reach the bottom of the mountain in Oudong and had to choose between climbing the olden stairs and the nice new ones

guess which we chose?

i think, i am very unfit. how to survive kinabalu?

Cambodia is a very flat country!

We tried paying the little kids out of some loose Riel, but it didn't add up to much and they weren't very happy about it. Actually we didn't really like the kids here cos they didn't really speak English and didn't give us much useful info about the place. Plus they were so demanding, even after we gave a couple of them US$1 (the ones who spoke better English), they still wanted more. We had to quickly run to our van to escape from the greedy kids.

Since we were already in the van we couldn't go check out all the food.. luckily our driver helped us to get them over, and they actually delivered it to our van. =D

We can even choose them..

These didn't turn out to be very tasty. We left a lot for the driver =D

The crab was quite crappy too.. not much meat.. but it was fun camwhoring w them.

We got our driver to drop us off in town and we ended the day's tour there. So that he wouldn't bring us to some touristy restaurant where he can get free food from and that we can try whatever we want!

At the Central Market with its Art Deco facade..

fruit monster..

I was hoping this was otah.. but it was some banana rice thing. Not bad for us hungry pple. Found this on the way to the riverside.

Found this little restaurant/cafe and decided to give it a try even though there was no one in there.

attempt at hunkhood

Had some very yummy steak and good coffee.

Time for a massage by the blind.. They were really professional and spoke good English but my masseuse was sooo strong I nearly died. I hate massages!

Even though we just ate, let's check out this French restaurant recommended by my chiong Lonely Planet.

This place used to be a bank!

Reminds me of Lawry's at Paragon. Made some reservations and off we went to check the night market

bought some scarves and anchovies for the office (the anchovies, not the scarves)

Back here at this fancy restaurant way under dressed and drenched

As we were handed our menus we were really puzzled that the menu had no prices.. Turned out that the girls' menus had no prices whereas the guys did. So that the girls don't have to worry about the price! Now isn't that a great idea!

acting retarded in a 'fine dining' restaurant

Actually my prawn pasta was quite lousy cos it was very dry. But I think the rest enjoyed their food.

They gave us a postcard at the end of the meal and called for a tuktuk for us. As it was raining when we left, they took an umbrella.. and it was huge!

haha, best.

Our Cambodian experience is complete with a tuktuk ride!

their green man actually walks first.. and then starts running towards the end!

Goodbye Cambodia! Don't think I'll be visiting you anytime soon!
