there's a seat for you at the rodeo

Saturday, February 24, 2007

so kevin asked me if i wanted to go to some cowboy show that sm had tickets for, and since i was free i thought why not. I've never gone to the Quicken Loans Arena before anyway. I had no idea what I was in for, I thought it was gonna be some cowboys on horses, throwing their lassos or something hehe.

And so we went. While we were looking for parking, there was a row of protesters outside the stadium! They had signs like, rodeo is cruel, it is not entertainment. That made me feel really bad.. I didn't even know what it was about lah. Haiya.. like so cruel, go and watch animals get tortured.

so what is rodeo? I realised that it is actually like, a sport. I never knew that! This was shown on Fox. So they have Bulls and Broncs, broncs = horses. I don't know what they do to excite the bulls/broncs, and when they come out of the bucking chute, the bull/bronc will jump around crazily, trying to throw or 'buck off' the rider. I suspect they do evil stuff to them to piss them off so much. I mean, there must be some reason there are protestors out there.

During which, the rider has to follow some rules, like, cannot put both hands on the bull or something, I'm not sure at all. And after that, they get some score which I don't know how they judge cos the game doesn't seem to be only judged by the length of time the rider stays on the bull/bronc.

So, this just goes on and on and on and on.. they kinda alternate between some bulls and some broncs.. Wah rao. And it's supposedly quite a popular american sport, leh. I think it's like wrestling lah.. something that i'll never understand. But the cowboys do go through quite a lot.. it's so dangerous to be so near the animals' legs after u fall off the animal.

this guy is on a horse. Not very fair cos this horse didn't jump around as vigorously as some others.

this was a show in which a little monkey sat on a dog, and the dog ran around herding sheep to that little enclosed area. Cool stuff. bth the sheep dunno y they so stupid.

and this was a mini rodeo for kids, where they came out on sheep! 3 out of 4 kids fell off immediately. This lad pulled on to the wool for dear life and the sheep ran across the whole stadium! Really cute but i wonder what kinda parents would let their kids go through that. dangerous loh!

And at the end, they named some cowboy er, the Toughest Cowboy. Damn nonsense. But am glad to have the chance to experience yet another American sport.

There was a country concert after the whole rodeo thing, but i don't even know who they were, and i was falling asleep so we politely excused ourselves and went home.
