Run Your Own Race

After last year's 10km run in December, I totally nua-ed and gained back my 2-4kg. So for pb's health, and my ability to fit into my clothes, we signed up for this year's run. Did I mention that it's also lots of fun? Here are my training results.. This is what pigging out and not running for half a year does to you. Very crappy timings! I totally can't keep up with my colleagues! Doesn't help that I had ankle problems for a while and recently chest pain while jogging.

However I'm heartened to see that there are visible improvements over a couple of months! Slight and gradual, but improvements nonetheless.. from 38:34 in late June to 35:09 today. Though today's jog was concluded with a Blk85 bakchormee-cwings-sugarcane session.. (actually most jogs are concluded with food), I am still happy happy.

Watch out for Race IDs 24425 and 43457! hah!

stanchart run 08

Participated in the women's 10km category. Our company sponsored our run and we even had a tent complete with masseuse and refreshments! In return we had to wear the ugly, uncomfortable, act-dry-fit corporate singlet. Ok, it wasn't that bad. =)

time to warm up

seldom get to wear singlet and shorts in front of the supreme court that actually looks like one

it's starting!

I want to say that the run was loads of fun, but it was pretty torturous too. It is pretty awesome to be running in the CBD area, past the Singapore flyer, onto Sheares Bridge, and past the F1 Grandstand with many ferraris and whatnots that tempted you to stop to take photos.

Many things were unexpected.. the scorching heat towards the end such that my feet felt like they were burning.. the crowd.. I imagined that after a while the pple would kinda disperse but it was crowded all the way and you have to really focus to overtake them safely, throughout the race. The first waterstop I went to had water in front and 100 plus at the rear tables.. at the last waterpoint I happily headed to the rear tables only to realize they were serving water and I had missed the 100plus station.

My Runspirator/Personal Photographer was nowhere to be seen for the whole10km, until the end when thankfully he was standing at the correct side.

almost there

see the finishing line?

my inspiration!

i think this is gonna screw up my template but here goes

love the medal. 10km only but very pretty, with the durians and flyer.

Running is one of those addictive things where when I am not running, I keep thinking of when my next run would be. But when I actually run, I would curse and swear and wonder what I was thinking when I started. It's a stupid love hate relationship, but at least it's free and keeps me slim and I get to eat whatever I want. Plus I get to play with my nokia sportstracker.

today's run (jurong lake)

Yay, I confirm that my Nokia Sports Tracker is working well! It says 1KB of data sent and 4KB received.. Doesn't sound expensive right?

Feeling a bit more confident in the application, I used the phone at run time (runtime, haha) to check for my distance.. and stopped to turn back when I was at half my distance. Pretty awesome.

Presenting today's workout..

Nokia Sports Tracker - today's run

One of the things I love most about my (quite) new Nokia E71 is the Sports Tracker. This is actually the first time I'm fully utilizing it because the gps didn't work the previous time. Decided to splurge a bit and try out the A-GPS, hopefully I don't freak out when the bill comes.

Turned out that it was pretty accurate! And it was really easy and painless to upload my route through the Sports Tracker interface on my phone, to the Sports Tracker website:
http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/workoutdetail/index.do?id=537128

Except for the part where it thought I was travelling at 20+km/h haha.. other than that, it's very useful to know exactly how I run, where I go fast and when I slow down.. and especially, how much distance I covered at what speed. And it is all automatic.. no more planning and manual mapping of routes!

Now I can't wait for my next run so that I can play with this again =)
