great smoky mountains national park, tennessee

Whee. These photos have been sitting around zooomr collecting dust so it's finally time to wipe them up and write. It's sad though that I can't seem to upload anymore photos.. the downtime has been pretty long. I guess that's good in a way cos after this batch of photos I really should go concentrate on my photobook instead.

I think this trip was our humble beginning to a series of more adventurous trips. This was the first time we didn't even book a hotel for the weekend and planned to just sleep in the car, whenever. Theoretically the drive takes 8.5 hours from where we stay, to tennessee. For some reason blogger thinks 'tennessee' is a wrong spelling and is underlining it in red, causing me to check again in google maps to make sure it's right. Tennessee. Google. Aahh.. you gotta spell it with a capital T and G and the red underline goes away. Blogger spell check is pretty anal eh.

Generally I drove as little as I could and I just slept too much and I was tired and sleepy most of the time.. Also this was a very wuhua trip because it spans 3 states!! Great smoky mountains national park [v long name hor] covers Tennessee and North Carolina, and we were planning to also go towards Shenandoah National Park in the state of Virginia the next day. shiok right.

We reached Gaitlinburg in Tennessee at say, 3/4am. It's a touristy small town near the national park. We totally fell asleep in the car there in some carpark outside kfc, until a policewoman came and shone a torchlight into our car. We were too tired to care, but she told us to go get a hotel [what? at this time? so bohua] and that we couldn't sleep there. Boo. So, we set off and drove into the park in search of another sleeping place.

one of our main aims was to see a bear!! well, safely of course. when we saw a crowd of people along the road, we promptly pulled over and joined them.. turned out that there was a mummy bear and her cubs somewhere out there. It was really hard to spot them and we had to borrow their bigass telescope? v nice of above guy to offer his telescope for our viewing pleasures. it was really impossible to see the bear without it.

we then started on the blue ridge parkway which goes towards shenandoah national park in virginia. We didn't follow the trail all the way cos it was getting dark and we wouldn't have enough time to reach home by Sunday if we did. So we went on the expressway much of the time.
