do you know how time consuming it is to make a photoblog? have to arrange photos, select which ones to upload to zooomr, upload to zooomr, then for each photo have to go to zooomr and select 'all sizes', select correct size, then get the link then copy and paste over here. there's probably some easier way to do it but i'm just not tech savvy enuf. heh.
so in other words i took way too many photos for the new york trip and i'm just too lazy to organize them even though i shld blog abt it before i forget the details not that anyone really cares abt what i ate and what i saw and what i thought.
right now i just feel like mapling, slashing a few drakes and lamenting about my lack of mesos and slow leveling speed. but i shall blog. cos everyone must be dying to see my new posts. see? im so nice.
i just tried to fry a fish.
yes, tried. hoho. after consulting google for recipes, i felt confident enough to take on my silver pomfret which cost me usd$3.74. So ex hor, the more stressed i feel cos if i screw up and it is inedible, then waste so much money leh. Then again kangkong is like, $3.50 here but that's another story.
So, i first defrost the fish using the microwave. it was freaking smelly. then i slit it like 3 times on each side so that easier to cook/marinate. so clever of me right? at this time i was on the phone with pb, while trying to have as little contact with the slimy fish as possible.
At this point i must remind everyone that i really hate fish. i luv to eat nicely cooked fish, or sashimi.. haha. BUT i hate fishes that are swimming around or whole and uncooked. i can never understand why people like to keep fishes. they are freaking ugly and scary to me.. I hate the fact that they cant live out of water, the way they splatter around and gasp for air (? or water?) and how they are so soft and squishy and if u squeeze them their eyeballs/guts will like pop out or something. EWWW.
so i was askin pb if i need to like, clean the fish. it was the frozen kind. and pb says no need, cos frozen kind is cleaned already, he buy b4. and then i realised that.. the fish was still in tact, like, not cut at the stomach. like that means not cleaned right? damnit means i must clean it!! i dun even know what i'm supposed to clean from it. pb says slit it and just yank all the black stuff out. =(
i slit the tummy and cldn't get a gd view of wat was inside.. so i slit the poor fishy all the way to its mouth and its head.. haha.. anyhowly!! and used my chopper to lever one side of the fish so that i cld see its inside.. hmm.. some black organ.. shld be stomach? so i used the chopper to drag it out.. [still refusing to touch anything]
now that fishy is cleaned of any black stuff [argh why did i give him a name this is so wrong] i proceeded to washhim it. next i put lots of salt in the slits i made [salt in his wounds buahaha] and tried to marinate it in dark soya sauce, light soya sauce, ginger, garlic, vinegar, spring onion, taibaifen. I use that combi all the time to cook everything so everything probably tastes the same ahha. well. anything to prevent it from being smelly!
i put lots of oil in the pan, in fear of the fish sticking to it. well, that shld be similar to deepfrying right?
at this point my mummy called me. HOW APT. CAN ASK HER FOR DIRECTIONS!! so i happily announced to her 'wo zai jian yu!!!' [im frying fish!!] haha she must have been damn amused. so she gave me some general instructions.. check out how well i did:
mummy: just put a few grains of salt in the wound.
paw: but.. must put more right? if not later smelly how? anyway i added lots of soya sauce to marinate it
mummy: oh. then it will be freaking salty! usually i add the dark soya sauce only after i fry it, remember?
paw: oh yah hor.
mummy: and u're supposed to wash off salt b4 frying
paw: HUH? then put for what? i scared smelly
mummy: just a bit of oil will do
paw: huh but if the skin stick to my non stick pan then damn gross and difficult to wash off right? er, i put a lot of oil leh
mummy: what? you're using a non stick pan? the more u shld use less oil
paw: ...
paw: my fish is not turning crispy. it looks wrong.
mummy: oh, must be cos there's water content. are there bubbles in the oil?
paw: er.. yah, a lot of bubbles
mummy: yah loh, means got a lot of water content.
paw: ??!??!?!?!
well, in case u're curious about how it turned out, lets just say it was edible. my flatmate said the fish was not fresh, so its not my fault haha. but the dark soya sauce bit was nice, so.. aiyah, it tasted ok lah just that it wasnt crispy. at least i got to eat fish.
and i still dunno howta fry crispy fish. and the whole apartment smells of smelly fish. mixed with my bath and body works pear blossom body spray which i sprayed all over my room to counter smelling the smell of the smelly smell. gonna be a long time b4 i dare to try cookin fish again!
