First day in los angeles! To visit the J Paul Getty Museum, highly recommended by some website.. First consulted gps where to eat, and he led us to 'Lucy's'. It's a lil mexican stall, totally like malaysia's roadside stalls, just that it's at american prices =p
first time seeing real fruit blended juices.. carrot for him, orange for me.
shiok rosti and omelette!
do you want a red chile burrito or a red chile burrito?
J. Paul Getty Museum
J Paul Getty Museum is famous for its architecture, its garden, and the art exhibitions. Most importantly, other than the $7 parking, it is free. Heehee. It's on a lil hill so after parking, we took this lil tram up to the museum. We went for a garden tour led by some guy who tried to be funny. You know, after a while u realise that all these tourguides use the same jokes, e.g. upon seeing something hideous, they go "Looks like my ex-wife." and upon seeing another one they go "And her mother." WAh lau eh. it's funny the first time lah but later on it's just annoying.
i think this is a sycamore tree.
the gardens
the wall behind us blocks the beautiful city of santa monica in the background because the selfish designer wanted pple to look at his garden instead of santa monica!
santa monica in the background
that's the cactus garden in the back. The designer designed parts of the gardens according to the surrounding landscape, the cacti were supposed to reflect the shape of the buildings in the background. In another area, some walls were painted lavender to reflect the mountains behind which supposed to look purple, maybe at certain times of the year/day.
This hole is supposed to capture a view, to capture ur attention on, whatever's framed by it.
Well, it was a pretty place and it was nice that it was free and had comprehensive tours. But I think guojun would label me as a wen2 mang2, and I totally wouldn't appreciate the arty artifacts and stuff in the museum so we didn't enjoy it that much. I liked the pretty view of the city though, since it was on top of a hill.
So after pretending to look at the art exhibits, we hastily left the museum, and went back to our hotel to get changed for the beach! We decided to drop by this lil Indian/Pakistani restaurant for our lunch. Nice to see things like briyani, tandoori.. the rest of which I dunno so that's all we ordered. Heh.
oniony lettucy salad thing
We had assumed the chicken briyani to be in a separate plate as the rice.. with gravy, but it was like that.. all together with no gravy. It tasted great tho, flavourful, and not too dry.
the tandoori chicken on a hotplate.. shiok
There it is. interestingly the pakistani owner has visited s'pore b4, says he went to little india.. haha cute.
Venice Beach
and we reached venice beach! acres and acres of sand!!
i soon fell asleep, leaving pb to check out the surfers and bikini babes haha. poor pb wanted to surf but no one really surfed, they just kinda waddled in to the sea on their tummies on the surfboard.. so boring!
some cool pple dancing on rollerskates.. if only i could do that!
loads of shops and pple
Many of the shops were painted and i lurrrve this!!
Hollywood Sign
We then left for hollywood! Drove pretty far through lots of traffic just to take photo with this damn sign. pb was like 'huh? like that only ah.' =p cheap thrill hor. Didn't meet any famous peepur, not that I would have recognised them anyways.
Mann's Chinese Theater
we next went down to Mann's Chinese Theatre, and luckily found metered parking.. There's expensive parking everywhere, even at the beaches [~$20] but always remember, parking in US should always be free/cheap! and I saw Beard Papa!! so happy.. cheesecake and chocolate fondant for me, milk for pb.. If only they had this in cleveland!
We saw darth vader, catwoman, the mask, scary big monsterish person, zorro [he was funny, keep asking pple to challenge him], michael jackson.. Pretty good way to earn a quick buck. Just take photos w pple and they tip you. Being cheapo I just took photos of them, refuse to pay them to take photo!!
Think i will never ever get used to the tipping system here. I know that they are earning minimum wages, but it's the same thing in spore also what. spore waiters also earn minimum wage also no need to tip them. I don' t think I should be the one to pay them for their emotional labour, it should be the company who pays them to serve the customers with basic courtesy. Also, I find it very much a lose lose situation. If i don't tip them, I feel horrible and mean and cheapo but when I tip them i suffer cos it's so much money! 15% of a meal of $50 = $7.50!! Can eat so much in spore already! =( I am so so much poorer than the service staff in US loh. They confirm earn more than me and i still gotta tip them.. boo.
Mann's Chinese Theatre.
The foot/handprints on the floor, they were all addressed to 'Sid', leaving me and pb super puzzled.. Haha.. no idea what that is. I shall ask wiki now. Ooooh.. he is, some guy. haha.. check this if you wanna know~!
