Yellowstone 4 - Springs

So after Old Faithful, we drove around Yellowstone, looking at the springs.

Grand Prism Spring

Happened to see lots of smoke, and some people walking about on the platforms.. so we decided to join in. This was another unplanned stop which turned out to be the best ever.

When people ask me where in the U.S. I enjoyed the most, it's an easy answer: Yellowstone. And this is an unanimous answer even between most of my colleagues. Yes, it is definitely way more fun than the beaches and amusement parks of the West Coast and the majestic Statue of Liberty and mountains in the East.

And the prettiest place in Yellowstone, is easily the Grand Prism Spring. Now I'm a fan of rainbows, I'm the kind who would arrange my markers in rainbow sequence.

So this was heaven.

can you believe this? Where did all the beautiful colors come from..

Porcelain Spring

So after the Grand Prism Spring, the rest of the springs weren't as spectacular. They were bordering on crappy but still worth a mention.

we walked so much that his sole came off

they had swimming pools for whoever felt like dipping themselves in some acid

kinda gross eh

Mammoth Spring

someone spotted this far away. wolf? dog? dunno

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Very nice, but as with all canyons, hard to take photos.

So, time to drive back towards our cabins..

spot the bear

dark clouds started to gather, but how do you get such beautiful sun beams without dark clouds? truly a fairy tale way to end our fairy tale yellowstone day.

the lil minimart was about to close by the time we reached, thank goodness! Had been surviving on tidbits the whole day. We managed to buy lots of sandwiches for our lunch+dinner.

Yellowstone 3 - Old Faithful

Sunday, May 27, 2007

Some of us woke up earlier than the rest, early enough to catch these critters right outside our cabin.

Some of us woke up a little later.

so we all gathered.. and crossed the road to access a picturesque little creek.

almost lost my balance

Ok, then we finally decided to move our butts towards Yellowstone. We were entering via the Northeastern entrance and travelling southwest, trying to make it in time for Old Faithful's showtime eruption at about noon.

so down the road we went.

there it is! Yellowstone.

no worries about entry fees since we have optimum people in each car.

the point of this photo is, kevin hugging his Planters honey roasted peanuts behind me.

Soon after we drove into the park, we spotted these!!!

They were actually pretty far away.. thanks to the good cameras we managed to zoom in a lil.

that's why puji chose the hyundai.. cos it has a sunroof for our almighty cameraman.

Yellowstone Lake

bambi

after taking the previous group shot, we made our way to the car, and saw this rock in the distance. Which was in the shape of a bison. Wait. IT WAS A BISON!!!!

the bison were aplenty in yellowstone

and!! We reached Old Faithful! There were already lots of people waiting for the show.

waiting with bated breath

before the show started, 3 bison sauntered out near the geyser.. and frolicked in the dust! I expect the powder on the floor to be pretty warm, and maybe they liked the warmth? I'm pretty surprised that these guys can know their way around and not get zapped by the geysers or something. Anyways, their appearance must be the cue for the show to start!

bison enjoying himself

awesome.

we then walked around the area.. where there were these mini-er geysers, most of which just bubbled over

bison leftovers

it's always amazing how such beautiful flowers can sprout in such harsh conditions

another violent eruption. This was really fantastic, it's like musical fountains, without the music and best of all it's totally natural

chipmunk

is he charging at us?

turned out that he had an itchy scalp problem and needed the aid of the sign post to scratch his head.. these bison are the cutest.

we had lunch in the Old Faithful Inn

bison meat

now i regret not getting a bison toy
